Valencia ended their Copa Del Rey match against Racing Santander on
Wednesday with just nine men on the pitch, and today, the last to be
sent off, Miguel, was given his punishment.
The Portuguese defender was dismissed for receiving a second yellow card following a high tackle on a player, but it was his reaction afterwards that got him into trouble.
Not only did the Valencia defender storm from the pitch shouting and waving his arms, but he then squared up to the linesman, and appeared to shout abuse in his face.
Coach Unai Emery had to restrain the player, but even as he walked down the tunnel he was still visibly furious at the decision.
Marca reports today that the angry outburst has earned him a three-match ban, after the referee wrote in his notes that the player insulted and threatened the linesman.
Miguel did ask to be forgiven in a press conference after the game, and said he is sorry for the incident, but said he did not threaten the official with death.
He was not the only Valencia employee to receive a ban though, as Pepe de los Santos Cifre, a member of the medical team, was handed a two-match ban for insulting the assistant on the touchline, and Vicente was given a one-match ban for his red card.
Valencia are yet to comment on the punishments.
