Earlier in the week, it was announced that a financial package had been drafted to help the Mestalla outfit clear their immediate debt, allaying fears of the possibility that the club could go into bankruptcy.
With their finances in place, Los Che’s vice-president Fernando Gomez yesterday announced that the team’s two key players and fan favourites, David Villa and David Silva will not be sold during the winter transfer window, following earlier rumours that president, Vicente Soriano would consider that option if their economic bail-out plan were to fall through.
“Villa and Silva will not be leaving
“But there’s a chance that [Nikola] Zigic and [Hugo] Viana will be going because they are two players who need to play regular football,” he added.
Gomez then went on to elaborate on the recent contract termination of centreback, Ivan Helguera and the possibility of the club bringing in a replacement.
“Helguera’s situation needed an immediate resolution, especially after the events of the past few weeks and days.
“Right now, we are not studying the option for any reinforcements, but a football club must always remain open to sign new players.
“We have enough cover to replace Helguera, such as Moretti, Maduro and Albelda, all of whom can play in that position,” he concluded.
