An MRI scan revealed today that the former Arsenal man has a half-centimetre rupture in the muscle fibres of his right thigh, necessitating a month on the sidelines.
In this sense Valencia are the worse for his absence, but there is a palpable sense of relief that he has not suffered a more severe breakage.
The imposing 29-year-old thus will not appear in a white shirt again before the festive break, although it is possible that he could make a comeback in the Copa del Rey match against Racing on January 7th, if not even the Liga meeting against Atletico Madrid the weekend prior.
Former Corinthians ace Edu signed for Valencia from Arsenal in 2005, having spent four seasons in London after leaving Corinthians. He represented Brazil in the Copa America of 2004, scoring a penalty in the final shoot-out with Argentina.
