Dortmund, Gladbach and Wolfsburg dominate as Goal picks out the best performers from across the weekend in Germany
All eyes were on the Veltins Arena on Saturday as Schalke took on Borussia Dortmund, with Jurgen Klopp's side claiming an excellent 3-1 victory over their rivals. But there were other noteworthy performances across Germany that deserve a mention in Goal's weekly best XI.
Werder Bremen may have slipped to a 3-0 loss to Wolfsburg on Saturday, but had it not been for goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz, who takes the No.1 jersey, it could have been far worse.
Naldo was among the VfL defenders who kept Robin Dutt's side quiet, while Andreas Beck was impressive as Hoffenheim beat Hannover 4-1. Hamburg youngster Jonathan Tah helped his side to a 3-0 win over Freiburg and Oscar Wendt was among the scorers in Gladbach's 4-1 victory against Frankfurt.
Nuri Sahin scored a spectacular long-range effort in BVB's triumph at Schalke; Simon Rolfes continued his goalscoring run for Bayer Leverkusen; Patrick Herrmann was another one of Gladbach's scorers; Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the star at the Veltins Arena and Wolfsburg youngster Maximilian Arnold continued his brilliant start to his career with yet another goal.
Finally, Shinji Okazaki leads the line after a match-winning double for Mainz against Eintracht Braunschweig at the Coface Arena.
