Premier League Team of the Week: Aguero, Kompany and Clichy star as Manchester City reinvigorate the title race

Everton trio Nikica Jelavic, Marouane Fellaini and Tony Hibbert also feature after their 4-4 draw at Old Trafford, with Chelsea duo Petr Cech and Gary Cahill included as well

Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Gael Clichy all feature in our XI this week after Roberto Mancini’s side’s 2-0 victory over Wolves blew open the Premier League title race.

The Argentine striker bagged his 22nd goal of the season to open the scoring at Molineux as City condemned Terry Connor’s side to relegation with a 2-0 victory.

Clichy makes his TOTW debut following his performance on Sunday, with the French left-back’s superb ball teeing up the former Atletico Madrid striker, while fellow defender Kompany also features in our XI for the fifth time this season.

Wayne Rooney is included after his double in Manchester United’s 4-4 draw with Everton at Old Trafford, but the Toffees feature far more heavily in our side after their superb comeback point against the champions.

Striker Nikica Jelavic is rewarded after he scored twice against the Red Devils, with Marouane Fellaini lining up in midfield after the Belgian also found his name on the scoresheet while Tony Hibbert’s two assists see the 31-year-old included at right-back.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Gary Cahill feature in goal and at centre-back respectively after Roberto Di Matteo’s men secured a point at the Emirates in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Yohan Cabaye makes his debut in our TOTW after he scored twice in Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Stoke City, with the French international also providing a superb assist for striker Papiss Cisse to bag his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

QPR’s Adel Taarabt completes our midfield after finding the back of the net with a free-kick in the R’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham despite his second-half sending off, with team-mates Shaun Derry, Jamie Mackie and Anton Ferdinand all unlucky to miss out.

Honourable mentions go to forward duo Danny Welbeck and Junior Hoilett, who both fail to make the cut despite their great goals this weekend.
