As once again Boca Juniors kept a clean sheet, it was Caruzzo and Sosa who were called upon to keep to their defensive duties. Caruzzo replaced the missing Schiavi and did so with ease. He was dominant in the air and had a very comfortable evening. Sosa was a threat down the right and played well as the club continued their run of 34 games unbeaten.

In La Plata, Estudiantes stalwart Leandro Desabato had a fantastic outing , controlling and leading his team throughout the match. The 33-year-old will be delighted with both the victory and clean sheet against Independiente. In Colon’s 3-1 victory, Caire had a good game as he showed some decisive passes. Boca returned to winning ways this weekend with a 2-0 victory over Newell’s Old Boys. Roman Riquelme shone in a performance befitting of his Man of the Match award. He was back to his very best on Sunday, with deft touches, supreme close control and a vast range of passing. His performance was capped off with a well taken free kick to make the game safe for the Apertura champions. In Colon’s victory over Olimpo, Bastia stood out as their greatest creative force in Roberto Sensini’s first game in charge. Bastia lead the midfield with some sublime interchanges with both Higuain and Fuertes and looked dangerous all evening.

Two goals either side of half time from Augusto Fernandez gave Velez a 3-2 victory against Arsenal. The second of the two was a volley from outside the box that left the Arsenal goalkeeper, Campestrini, completely flat footed. Elsewhere in Santa Fe, Atletico Rafaela were stunned by a late 93rd minute winner from All Boys’ Matias Perez Garcia. The winger's stoppage-time goal stunned the Rafaela crowd and capped his performance perfectly.

Banfield’s 34-year-old striker, Hernan Rodrigo Lopez, headed the winning goal in the 93rd minute to upset Racing. Despite having limited service all match, the nomadic striker was on cue to head past the helpless Saja and snatch all the points for the Bandits.

Higuain began the scoring for Colon early in the 17th minute of the first half as he charged past three challenges and slammed the ball into the bottom corner. He was also involved in the third goal in a great performance for the team from Santa Fe.
