thumbnail Hello,

Goal.com picks the best performers from Tuesday's Euro 2012 and World Cup 2014 qualifiers

International

Team Of The Round

GOALKEEPER

Samir HANDONOVIC
Slovenia

Handanovic is famous for his uncanny ability to stop penalties (he saved six in Serie A last season) and the Udinese keeper was up to his old tricks against Serbia as he pushed away Nemanja Vidic's spot-kick just after the hour mark. He also did well to deny Milos Krasic in the second half as Slovenia dashed Serbia's play-off hopes with a 1-0 win in Maribor.
DEFENDERS

Sergei IGNASHEVICH
Russia

Richard DUNNE
Republic of Ireland

Fernando AMOREBIETA
Venezuela

Ignashevich patrolled the backline with the zeal of a four-star general and even chipped in with a goal as Russia qualified for Euro 2012 with an emphatic victory over Andorra. Dunne was uncompromising in the centre of defence and scored the pivotal goal which secured a play-off spot for the Republic of Ireland. Amorebieta produced a stunning display of defensive fortitude against the might of Argentina, as Venezuela recorded their first-ever World Cup qualifying win over their South American rivals.

MIDFIELDERS

David SILVA
Spain

Mesut OZIL
Germany

Juan ARANGO
Venezuela

Shinji KAGAWA
Japan

Silva was his typically elegant self as his brace ended Scotland's chances of securing a play-off spot. Ozil once again pulled the strings in midfield for Germany as he racked up a goal and an assist against Belgium to ensure Joachim Low's men finished the qualifying campaign with a perfect record. Arango ran the game for Venezuela in their shock victory against Argentina, and his dead-ball ability swayed the game, not least in his perfect delivery for the winning goal. Kagawa was a constant threat for Japan, scoring twice in the demolition of Tajikistan.

Christian ERIKSEN
Denmark
Ajax playmaker Eriksen masterminded a wonderful evening for Danish football, as he controlled his side's impressive 2-1 win over Portugal, a result which meant that his side secured top spot and a berth in Euro 2012 at the expense of Cristiano Ronaldo and his compatriots.

FORWARDS

Antonio CASSANO
Italy

Johan ELMANDER
Sweden

Cassano finished as Italy's top scorer in the qualifying campaign with six goals and was on target once again on Tuesday as his movement caused all sorts of problems for Northern Ireland. The AC Milan striker took both of his goals well and was a nuisance all evening long. Elmander had a hand in all three goals as Sweden sealed an automatic berth in Euro 2012 as the best runners-up thanks to a thrilling 3-2 win over Netherlands.
