How did James Rodriguez perform for Monaco in Ligue 1 last season?

Real Madrid's €80 million signing rocketed to global fame at this summer's World Cup, but just how impressive was he for his French club following his €45m move?
James Rodriguez might have been propelled to superstardom by a phenomenal World Cup with Colombia, but Real Madrid did not splash a reported €80 million on five games of sensational performances alone.

The 23-year-old, bought by Monaco for €45m last summer from Porto, helped the newly promoted French club to finish one place off top spot in Ligue 1, beaten to first place by reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

His goalscoring figures might not be at the Golden Boot-esque levels he showed in Brazil, when he scored six times including the Goal of the Tournament, as the Monaco man converted two thirds of his chances at the World Cup finals.

However, James was not quite the central figure for the principality club that he was in Colombia's quarter-final run and his 12 assists - the most in Ligue 1 - prove that he was the man pulling the strings at the Stade Louis II in 2013-14.

Will James' Ligue 1 figures, pictured below, be endlessly more impressive this season at the Santiago Bernabeu? Or do you think the Goal 50 contender will struggle to make his mark on the Madrid first team with competition for places?

Goal readers voted in their masses to reject the notion that Carlo Ancelotti needed to sign the forward, whom we have suggested may become a tactical problem as the Italian coach looks to fit him into his starting line-up.
