The feisty Madrid derby was the highlight for many in La Liga this weekend, but there was plenty of other action in Spain to sink your teeth into.
Barcelona took advantage of Real Madrid's 2-2 draw at Atletico Madrid by beating Almeria to gain ground on the Blancos at the top, while Real Sociedad followed their win over the Catalans with defeat at Sevilla.
Elsewhere there were triumphs for the likes of Athletic Bilbao and Levante, while Valencia suffered a loss at Rayo Vallecano. Goal checks out the best performers in round 26 of the Primera Division.
Between the sticks, Keylor Navas continued his stellar season as he stopped everything fired his way by Osasuna and the Costa Rican was crucial in helping Levante win 2-0 on home turf.
Andoni Iraola and Carlos Gurpegui earned their spots as two of the three defenders to star this week as rocks at the back for Athletic - with the former getting an assist and the latter a goal - as they comfortably conquered Granada 4-0 to extend their grip of fourth spot. The way Diogo had Antoine Griezmann in his pocket all game long as Sevilla beat Real Sociedad 1-0 secured his place at the back.
Big-game player Arda Turan once again starred at the Vicente Calderon with, fighting tooth and nail for Atletico in midfield to earn a point at home to their arch-rivals, Real. Ruben Garcia is the second of three Levante stars in this XI for finishing off the game, while Carles Gil came off the bench to bring jubilation to the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero by scoring the winner. Pedro Leon might not have scored in Getafe's 0-0 draw against Espanyol but his classy performance bags the fourth and final midfield slot.
Up front, Lionel Messi returned from a brief Team of the Week hiatus by putting in a brilliant performance, which included scoring a terrific free kick, as Barca ran riot 4-1 against Almeria at Camp Nou. Aritz Aduriz bagged a superb hat-trick for Athletic in five-star performance, while David Barral may not have scored but he caused countless headaches for Levante in and around the area.
