'Made Juventus look like mincemeat' - Goal.com World Player of the Week Bastian Schweinsteiger

POSITION Midfielder
PLAYS FOR Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich
2-0 Juventus
Eintracht Frankfurt
0-1 Bayern Munich

For the second weekend in a row a Bayern Munich player has taken the World Player of the Week award as the Rekordmeister Bavarians stamped one foot in the Champions League semi-finals with a dominant team performance against Juventus and then securing the Bundesliga title on Saturday.

After Claudio Pizarro's success last weekend, seven days later it is Bastian Schweinsteiger who reminded the world what a quality player he is by leaving a highly-rated Bianconeri midfield looking like mincemeat and in tatters. All eyes were on Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio at the Allianz Arena but Schweinsteiger and his Bavarian cohorts ran the Turin giants ragged as David Alaba and Thomas Muller's ensured a 2-0 first-leg victory in the quarter-final clash.

The Germany international would have been a major contender for our World Player of the Week on that showing alone, but then he had the audacity to score the German title-winning goal with a backheel in a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.

Goal.com Germany's Falko Bloeding said: "What a week it was for Bastian Schweinsteiger: Not only did he anchor Bayern's dominant performance in the 2-0 victory against Juventus and their hugely praised centre of midfield, he also scored the decisive goal in the match that secured his team's title in the Bundesliga. And what an amazing goal that was: against Frankfurt he converted Philipp Lahm's cross with a superb backheel-kick to give the new champions the victory.

"It is the decisive period of the season and this is clearly where the Germany international wants to prove his critics wrong. After the failures and lack of silverware in 2012, he is now even more dominant on the pitch and he wants everybody to see his confidence. Ahead of the match against Juve, he said: 'My aim is to play against Spain and to play against Barcelona and to beat them with our way of playing football. I am convinced that we [Germany and Bayern] are able to do that.'"

Congratulations to Bastian Schweinsteiger, Goal.com's 203rd World Player of the Week winner!
