La Liga Team of the Week: Alves & Alexis alongside Cristiano Ronaldo
Barcelona's much-maligned pair were back on form at the weekend as the Catalans beat Deportivo La Coruna, while the Portuguese netted a double in Real Madrid's win at Celta Vigo
Barcelona stay well clear at the top of the Primera Division after beating Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 at Camp Nou on Saturday, but Real Madrid moved second after they defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 at Balaidos and Atletico lost their perfect home record with a surprise 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad. Here, Goal.com takes a look at the standout performers from the latest round of Liga action.
In goal, Gorka Iraizoz helped keep Valencia at bay with some fine saves as Athletic Bilbao beat Ernesto Valverde's side by a single strike at San Mames.
At the back, Dani Alves and Carles Puyol both impressed for Barcelona as the Catalans kept a clean sheet for the first time in 14 games, while the Brazilian superbly set up the first goal for Alexis Sanchez. Martin Demichelis was solid for Malaga, meanwhile, as the Andalusians claimed a point at Valladolid.
In midfield, Pedro Rios impressed for Levante against his old club Getafe but was without reward as the teams drew 0-0. Chori Dominguez led Rayo Vallecano to a fine win over Espanyol and scored the first goal for the Madrid side, while Giovani dos Santos set up both goals for Mallorca against Sevilla and Antoine Griezmann helped Real Sociedad to an unexpected victory over Atletico.
Cristiano Ronaldo was decisive with both goals for Real Madrid at Celta Vigo, while Alexis Sanchez was back on form as he set Barca on their way to a 2-0 win over Deportivo. Alejandro Alfaro was in the right place at the right time to give Mallorca all three points against his former club Sevilla with both goals and he completes this week's XI.
