Palermo came within seconds of earning a much-needed victory away to Cagliari thanks largely to the fantastic form of goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino on his debut following his midweek transfer from Chievo.
In defence, Lorenzo De Silvestri was stellar as Sampdoria overcame Pescara with some ease, but things were more complicated for Nicola Legrottaglie and Catania as they snatched a late win over Fiorentina. Still, the former Juventus and Milan defender was in great form, much like Marco Andreolli, who was a key member of Chievo's winning side against Lazio at the Olimpico on Saturday.
A supersub showing from Esteban Cambiasso helped Inter earn a point after Torino had gained a surprise lead at San Siro. Meanwhile, Marek Hamsik ended a 10-week spell without a call into our XI with a match-winning display for Napoli at Parma. One of the weekend's goal-fests saw Bologna and Roma share six goals, and while Alessandro Diamanti didn't make it onto the scoresheet, he was a constant thorn in the Giallorossi's side, almost snatching a winner late on. Somebody who did score a decider in the latter stages was Lucas Castro, whose strike earned three points for Catania against Fiorentina.
Torino almost took all three points from their clash with Inter, with Riccardo Meggiorini scoring twice, while Cyril Thereau's performance against Lazio was decisive in Chievo's 1-0 victory. The outstanding performance of the weekend though was undoubtedly that of Mauro Icardi, who scored four times as Sampdoria demolished Pescara 6-0 at Marassi. It's the Argentine's second time in our line-up in January alone, and the chances are that he will appear a few times more before the season is through.
