Theo Walcott continued to make a sterling case for being offered a new Arsenal contract by scoring a sublime hat-trick from a striking role in a 7-3 win over Newcastle on Saturday.
The Gunners and the Magpies contested a thrilling battle at the Emirates, in which the England international opened the scoring with a perfect finish from inside the area. Three times Alan Pardew's men levelled the score, but a flurry of goals in the last 10 minutes ensured all three points went to Arsene Wenger's side.
His goals caused Wenger to confess that he is no longer considering bringing Thierry Henry in on loan, while the performance could only have strengthened Walcott's hand as he continues to negotiate a new deal with the club's hierarchy.
Goal.com's Enis Koylu: "Walcott is now a completely different player from the one he was just 12 short months ago. Having started the season on the bench, he has not only forced his way into Arsene Wenger's first team with his performances this season, but also won his place in his preferred role as a central striker.
"Arsenal have found their replacement to Robin van Persie now, and it is imperative that they offer him whatever terms he wants to keep him at the club. They simply cannot afford to see another star leave, and a star he certainly is."
