Word on the Tweet: Rio, Lescott et al feel the chill but it's an ice bath for Jerome Thomas
A morning that broke with sub-zero temperatures gets footballers talking on Twitter and Jose Enrique settles in for a rest but Jamie O'Hara says goodbye to the social network
There was just no escaping the cold on Thursday and even footballers, whom you might think could warm themselves up by wrapping themselves in thick coats made from banknotes, are feeling the chill. Some, like Steven Reid, threw on every layer of clothing possible and got involved in some top-tier hashtagging to get the blood flowing, while his West Brom colleague Jerome Thomas, on loan at Leeds, actually sought out the cold in a bid to get over an injury.
Footballers all over Twitter had their say on the sub-zero temperatures plus one midfielder said goodbye to the social network altogether - so come with us for Word on the Tweet...
"#Fresh #gloves #hat #tights #snood"Some rock-solid hashtagging action from West Brom's Steven Reid as he faces up to a morning of character-building coldness.
"Cold start to the day! Kids in school now Roll on sunday #DerbyDay !"
What's this, Rio Ferdinand (pictured right)? Is there a Manchester derby coming up? Why has nobody told WOTT?
"Had a good think last night and today is my last day on twitter, I'll be starting a private Facebook account and anyone who is a genuine fan Can send me a friend request, to many trolls on here with nothing nice to say"
We are gathered here today to mourn the passing of Jamie O'Hara from the WOTT stable of regulars. Find peace on The Other Social Network, friend.
"Wouldn't mind the winters as much if we had a summer. Anyways En route to meet @aaronlescott and pick a winner for the derby tickets."
Maybe Joleon Lescott should use his winnings to fund something that would heat up the summer months. Global warming, perhaps.
"great win last night disappointed not to qualify but we showed great spirit.amazing support again."
At least Victor Moses can see the bright side from Chelsea's most futile of 6-1 wins.
"Hate traffic..."
BUY A JETPACK, Kevin-Prince Boateng!
"Race against time to get this hamstring fit for Saturdays game... #IceBath"West Brom loanee Jerome Thomas (pictured left) is far, far keener to play in Derby County v Leeds than WOTT would have thought possible.
"The first requirement of a captain is to play well. Alastair Cook has certainly nailed that part #runmachine"
Gareth Southgate is among those paying tribute to England cricket captain Cook for his record-breaking century against India in the early morning.
"Good morning tweeps cold morning! But it's nearly the weekend! :):):):):)"
Either Gary Gardner is very happy or a cat ran all over his phone.
"Good morning people. Just having some breakfast in the hotel. Long day for rest before the kick of."
Jose Enrique is getting himself in the zone for Liverpool's must-win away tie against Udinese. There is only one 'f' in the zone.
