Word on the Tweet: Rio slams Uefa over inconsistent fines
Elsewhere, Michael Owen prepares to don the silly headwear as Royal Ascot gets underway while Grant Holt and Joleon Lescott look ahead to England's Group D D-day in Donetsk...
Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker are among the latest to lambast Uefa following their bizarre sanctions against Croatia and Nicklas Bendtner. The Denmark striker was fined nearly £80,000 for sporting underwear which displayed a brand logo, while the Croatian footballing authorities were hit with a charge of only £65,000 as a penalty for racist abuse from their travelling supporters – which did not sit well with Rio.
With just two places up for grabs in the next round of Euro 2012, the tension is becoming tangible for the likes of Grant Holt and Joleon Lescott, while for Netherlands defender Johnny Heitinga, it’s all about putting his feet up and forgetting the last two weeks ever happened.
Elsewhere, Michael Owen talks Royal Ascot, Nani visits the lanes and Zak Whitbread makes some alarming accusations as Goal.com provides the latest round-up of the best tweets of the last 24 hours…
"Had a very nice time playing bowling with my teammates."
Portugal ace Nani relaxes down the lanes after his side bowled over the Netherlands to reach the Euro 2012 knock-out phase.
"I was there! #wow #frankel"
Michael Owen confirms a severe case of Royal Ascot fever, as he horses around with pictures from the races.
"Just arrived in Singapore.. Someone was dropping some crazy farts on that flight then!! Sure it was the mrs they smelt like hers #Eggy"
Zak Whitbread marches boldly on to thin ice as he touches down in the Far East. Innocent until proven guilty, Zak...
"Just arrived in Ibiza! Holiday time!!!!"
John Heitinga hits the club capital of Europe after a Netherlands failed spectacularly to find their rhythm in Poland and Ukraine.
"Can't wait for the game tonight. 3-1 I'm going for. Not sure if betting with my heart or my head."
Grant Holt puts his money where his mouth is and backs his compatriots to ease past Ukraine in Tuesday evening's crunch clash.
"They did it at the end..even without strikers.."
Despite criticism of their 'false 9' approach, Yossi Benayoun commends Spain's persistence after they overcame a dogged Croatia to win Group C on Monday.
"If racism made money for Uefa like advertising does do you think Uefa would take it as serious?? #priorities"
Rio Ferdinand is the latest to slam Platini & Co. for their handling of the fines of Nicklas Bendtner and Croatia respectively.
"Back in the Ukraine for the final group game and there doesn't look like thunder storms any time soon."
There may be sparks flying on the pitch later, but England defender Joleon Lescott is confident the weather will be kind as he prepares for Tuesday's clash with the hosts.
"How many times commentator got names wrong in this Spain game #guessing"
Manchester United's Tom Cleverley was clearly unimpressed by BBC commentator Simon Brotherton's repeated mix-up of David Silva and David Villa during Spain's match with Croatia.
"I am so relieved now I never exposed my packet during a game. A crisp sanction would have ensued"
Finally, England legend Gary Lineker jokes that he dodged a bullet during his playing days after Bendtner's hefty fine for flashing boxer shorts with an advertising logo.
