We look back at the most memorable strikes of the season as part of our review of the Italian top flight's best moments in 2011-12

With another Serie A season having come to its conclusion, not until August will we be treated once more to spectacular goals on a weekly basis. In the past eight months, 380 matches in Italy's top tier produced 972 goals, with some pure gems among them.

From the exhaustive catalogue, we have picked out the wheat from the chaff and narrowed down the list to the best four strikes, with our choices below.

There is no entry for the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mirko Vucinic, Claudio Marchisio or Diego Milito, with the technical ability of the entire league being highlighted with a quartet of unsung heroes grabbing their moment in the spotlight.

STEFANO MAURI - LAZIO v NAPOLI

GOOOAAALLL!! MAURI!!! What a goal from the Biancocelesti midfielder. A great cross is sent over from the left, and he produces a spectacular bicycle kick which leaves De Sanctis completely helpless. Lazio are back in front in superb fashion.

We perhaps inevitably start with the wonderful overhead bicycle-kick effort from the Lazio vice-captain in the Champions League head-to-head clash against Napoli in early April.

Mauri's magnificent goal was one of those awe-inspiring efforts that leaves you picking your jaw up from the floor. From the very moment Stefan Radu delivered a cross from the left, the No. 6 didn't have to think twice about how he was going to respond, showing spectacular co-ordination to perfectly time his leap and strike a blow which gave Morgan De Sanctis no chance.

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri summed it up best with his gesture of disbelief, knowing his side had been undone by an unstoppable effort from Mauri's left boot.

SEBASTIAN GIOVINCO - SIENA v PARMA

GIOVINCO, CRAZY GOAL ... PARMA IN THE LEAD! A brilliant strike by the Gialloblu No. 10, who reached the edge of the area, then with an explosion from his right foot, sends the ball hurtling into the net.

Height doesn't matter when you have class, technique and outstanding skill on the ball.

Sebastian Giovinco has become accustomed to masterpiece goals, but in the penultimate week of the season, he produced a strike of rare beauty.

With the ball arriving to him mid-air, the 'Atomic Ant' took it on the half-volley, delivering a strike of wicked pace, dip and sheer precision to find the top corner of the net from 30 yards out, stunning the Artemio Franchi.

He had everybody applauding, irrespective of their allegiance. It was just that kind of goal.

JUAN CUADRADO - LECCE v SIENA

Whatever happens at Lecce this summer following their relegation to Serie B, the efforts of Colombian duo Luis Muriel and Juan Cuadrado will not quickly be forgotten at the Via Del Mare.

The most dazzling memory will be the goal from the winger during the demolition of Siena, which at the time gave the Salentini real hope of avoiding the dreaded drop.

Cuadrado picked up the ball well inside his own half, running at the stretched Robur back four with real pace and desire. By the time he reached the visitors' penalty area, he had left many dazed by his superb step-overs, then ghosted past the last two covering outfielders before baffling keeper Gianluca Pegolo with a delightful lofted finish into the top of the net. Simply unstoppable.

RODRIGO PALACIO - GENOA v NAPOLI

GOAL FOR GENOA: PALACIO!!! An incredible finish from the Argentine, who takes Gilardino's header and, with incredible co-ordination, sends an unstoppable effort past De Sanctis! It's his 10th goal of the season!

Some were left doubting the quality of Rodrigo Palacio's superb back-heel strike against Lazio. Sure, it was excellent to watch, but many claimed it was more the result of luck than judgement. However, he could only have united everybody in praise with his fantastic effort against Napoli.

Genoa's Argentine attacker has spectacular goals in his DNA, but the strike which left De Sanctis helpless in late-January was perhaps his very best.

Alberto Gilardino nodded down a high ball into the path of his strike partner, and from just outside the area to the left of goal, Palacio delivered a wonderful half-volley, steering the ball high across the desperate dive of the keeper. It was made all the more fantastic by the fact that he appeared to be slightly off balance as he struck it, but his body shape was simply perfect in delivering a key goal for his side.
