Table/Results

GOALKEEPER

Christian ABBIATI
AC Milan
TOTW Apps: 1

The Rossoneri certainly cannot fault Abbiati for conceding a late goal to Juventus. The shot-stopper had no chance on Alessandro Matri's volley but was pivotal beforehand, making a superb flying stop on Marcelo Estigarribia's long-range drive and also denying Fabio Quagliarella from close range during the clash between the title contenders.
DEFENDERS

Giovanni MARCHESE

Grifoni skipper Rossi was moved to the right-back position in a 4-3-1-2 formation and showed a true captain's spirit as his side fought back for a draw after going 2-0 down against Parma. Meanwhile, journeyman centre-back Stendardo kept things organised in defence against Roma, sticking to his marking tasks during set-pieces and keeping Pablo Daniel Osvaldo under wraps.

Chiellini makes a consecutive appearance in our Best XI for his display against Milan. Despite a nervous start, the Italian grew in stature as the game progressed with several well-timed and strong challenges as evidence of his appetite for the occasion. Catania made short work of Novara, and left-back Marchese helped them secure all three points with a spectacular goal following a half-cleared corner.

Franco BRIENZA

Bologna suffered their first loss in 2012 at the hands of Udinese and Basta was the best man on the pitch with a goal and assist at the Renato Dall' Ara. Similarly, Hernanes proved to be the difference for Lazio in their 1-0 triumph over Fiorentina, as he played in Miroslav Klose for the lone goal of the match in a genuinely effective display.

With Marek Hamsik missing versus Inter, coach Walter Mazzarri turned to Dzemaili and the Swiss playmaker did not disappoint. Goalkeeper Julio Cesar may have denied him a goal, but the 25-year-old's mazy run to set up Ezequiel Lavezzi's winner was an example of the ability he possesses. Meanwhile, Brienza, despite diving to earn a penalty against Palermo, haunted his former team from set-pieces by assisting one goal before finding the back of the net himself, showing his prowess from dead-ball situations.
FORWARDS

German DENIS

Alessandro MATRI
Juventus

Denis returned to scoring ways in truly brilliant fashion as he bagged a hat-trick against Roma. He started the ball rolling with a fine assist to send Guido Marilungo on a breakaway and was clinical in his finishing following that.

Finally, the entrance of substitute Matri swung the match in Juventus' favour against Milan. The Italy international had one goal chalked off for a controversial offside call before he struck the crucial equaliser by turning in Simone Pepe's cross. The Bianconeri only truly looked dangerous in attack when he came onto the pitch.
