thumbnail Hello, Special: Bayern Munich - Werder Bremen: Key Battles Special: Bayern Munich - Werder Bremen: Key Battles's Subhankar Mondal looks at the key battles between the two sides ahead of the German Bundesliga showdown on Saturday...

Franck Ribery v Clemens Fritz

Ribery has been in good form so far this season and appears to have got back his hunger and creativity. The French international will start on the left flank and from there he will be expected to do the damage. The former Marseille midfielder can be very dangerous when not taken care of and indeed when given the run of the park he can be very lethal.

Fritz will be the right-back for Werder Bremen and much of the task of stopping Ribery will fall on his shoulders. The 29-year-old can play as a winger too but he will have to smother his attacking inclination in order to keep Ribery in check.

Ivica Olic v Sebastian Proedl

Olic had a great season last time around but has featured in just one game in the Bundesliga for Bayern this season. He is expected to fight with fellow striker Miroslav Klose for a starting berth and if he gets the nod, then he will be looking to pick out the holes in the Werder back-line. Olic has a great eye for goal and one cannot leave him unattended for too long.

Without Naldo and Per Mertesacker, Werder do look susceptible at centre-back and Proedl will have to compensate. Mikael Silvestre is likely to make his debut too at the heart of the back-line for Werder but the visitors will look towards Proedl for leadership. The 23-year-old Austria international must be careful and vigilant at the back.

Bastian Schweinsteiger v Torsten Frings

Schweinsteiger is one of the most complete midfielders in the world and the Germany international will be a menace in the midfield for Werder. Essentially a central midfield player, the 26-year-old will start alongside Mark van Bommel to stop the opposition's moves but he will provide a force moving forward too. Schweinsteiger's ability and creativity to launch attacks and turn 'defence into offence' will be crucial.

33-year-old veteran Frings will be the defensive midfielder for his side and will be looking to stop Bayern's attacks. The Bavarians do have a better attacking department than Werder and indeed Frings will have to control the midfield in order for the visitors to maintain their ground.

Holger Badstuber v Marko Marin

Just 21, Badstuber is already showing his class at Bayern Munich. The versatile defender, who can feature as a centre-back as well as a left-back, will play at the heart of the Bayern back-line on Saturday and he will be a rock at the back. Badstuber has already shown his ability to be strong at centre-back.

With Mesut Oezil not playing for Werder anymore, Marko Marin will be the creative fulcrum, at least against Bayern with a number of players missing. The Germany international is just 21 but has been in good form this season, impressing against Sampdoria in the Champions League play-off round in Genoa. It will be interesting to observe the battle between the two 21-year-olds as Marin takes on Badstuber.
