Top 10 Spending Clubs In The 2010 Summer Transfer Window

The 2010 summer transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday to end a rather interesting transfer period. Premier League side Manchester City added players such as Dabid Silva, Aleksandr Kolarov and Mario Balotelli to their squad ahead of the new season, while players like Robinho and Stephen Ireland were offloaded.
Other familiar names among this summer's big spenders are Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Catalans signed stars like David Villa and Javier Mascherano, while Yaya Toure and Dmytry Chygrynskiy left the club. Madrid spent heavily on Angel di Maria, Mesut Oezil and Sami Khedira, but didn't make any money this summer (the possible departure of Rafael van der Vaart to Tottenham Hotspur has yet to be confirmed at the point of writing this article), despite the departure of Raul, Christoph Metzelder and Guti.
Perhaps surprising names in the top ten of big spenders are the likes of Rubin Kazan and Zenit St. Petersburg. The reigning champions and current table toppers didn't hold on the transfer market and lured Carlos Eduardo and Bruno Alves among others to Russia.

However, if we take away the revenues from outgoing transfers, we see two new teams entering the top 10 of big spenders. Genoa's remarkable transfer campaign brought players such as Eduardo, Miguel Veloso, Rafinha and Kevin Prince-Boateng to Serie A and the aforementioned players didn't come on the cheap. Bundesliga side Wolfsburg splashed the cash on the likes of Diego, Simon Kjaer and Mario Mandzukic.
