Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 18
Goal.com looks at the best performing players from the 18th round of the Serie A calendar...
BEST XI
Formation: 3-4-2-1
Goalkeeper
Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo): The youngster is living the dream, seeing his stock rise with the Sicilians in every match. He was beaten by a clever Antonio Cassano, but made save after save against Sampdoria to salvage a draw, including some excellent stops from Daniele Gastaldello and Angelo Palombo.
Defence
Lucio (Inter): A very shrewd signing for Inter over the summer, the Brazilian was once again imperious at the back with his challenges and timely with his clearances in a 1-0 win at the Bentegodi.
Mario Yepes (Chievo): It is not easy to completely nullify Diego Milito, but the Colombian managed it, turning in an almost perfect match against the Nerazzurri. The 33-year-old is one of the rocks in the foundation of the Flying Donkeys.
Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus): He is about the only player who can hold his head up high in Juventus’ defence this season. The towering centre-back bosses around the opposition with his physical and aerial play and the Italian international showed why he is considered one of the best defenders in Serie A. He also played a hand in the opener in Parma.
Midfield
Daniele Conti (Cagliari): The epitome of the ‘never-say-die’ midfielder. The 30-year-old will have made his father, former Roma and Italy legend Bruno Conti, proud with his goal whilst disappointed his son helped Cagliari to a late draw against the Giallorossi.
Massimo Ambrosini (Milan): The ball winner has his fair share of critics, but his performance against Genoa showcased exactly why he is in the team. He has an uncanny ability to cover ground on the pitch. As a bonus, he earned two penalties.

Sergio Almiron (Bari): The winter break has not interrupted the Galletti’s positive momentum. The ex-Empoli man was once again pulling the strings for Bari. Frankly, Juventus are missing a player like him this season.
Juan Vargas (Fiorentina): The Peruvian’s brilliant season continues. Whenever Fiorentina play well, he is at the heart of it. The rumoured Real Madrid target was a terror down the left and helped the Viola overcome their Tuscan rivals Siena, a team they have had trouble with in the past.
Attack
Sergio Floccari (Lazio): As far as debuts go – this is the best the former Atalanta star could hope for - with the Biancocelesti down 1-0, he scored a brace to turn the match around and Lazio waltzed to a 4-1 win over Livorno.

Ronaldinho (Milan): He started badly by missing a penalty, but then put in a master-class performance! First, he made up for his earlier error from the spot, then he controlled his side’s offence, initiating the play to kill off the match. Also showed he can be classy by letting Klaas-Jan Huntelaar take a final spot kick later on.
Marco Borriello (Milan): Even without his two goals, he would still have been a candidate for the ‘Team of the Week’ due to his impressive work for the Rossoneri. His scissor-kick goal was just the icing on the cake as he bagged his fifth and sixth of the campaign.
