Serie A Worst Team Of The Week: Round 16

Goal.com looks at those who performed poorly in the sixteenth round of action...

WORST XI

Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper

Vlada Avramov (Fiorentina): Although the Serbian made some nice saves during the match, he was partly at fault for both goals of Chievo, most notably Pinzi’s where he failed to adjust to the danger. The Viola will be glad when Sebastien Frey returns.

Defence

Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus): A nightmarish display from the centre-back, who could not cope with the Bari attack. His experience was no asset as he conceded a penalty and nearly scored a spectacular own goal. The player must shape up before the World Cup.

Salvatore Bocchetti (Genoa): It was inevitable that he would be sent off against Lazio. The young Italian continued to commit foul after foul and eventually got his just reward – a red card!

Giuseppe Favalli (Milan): A very large step down from Thiago Silva, the veteran’s time in Serie A is surely up at the end of the season. Milan must hope for the recovery of the other centre-backs quickly.

Midfield

Ignazio Abate (Milan):
The youngster was given a chance to prove himself in an attacking role, but failed to make an impact. Oddly, he still did better than his replacement Pato, who is mentioned below.

Diego (Juventus): He certainly was not the worst Juventus player on the field, but his missed penalty was the turning point of the match and the Bianconeri could not recover. The ball he skied over the night may as well have been Ciro Ferrara, who will no doubt be booted before long.

Paying The Penalty | Diego missed from the spot

Ezequiel Carboni (Catania):
The defensive midfielder did not impress as Sinisa Mihajlovic made his coaching debut at the club. He was overrun and bypassed by the Livorno offence, as the Etnei lost to a relegation race rival.

Raffaele Palladino (Genoa):
The winger’s inconsistencies continue. One day he can be genius, the other useless. On Sunday it was the latter.

Attack

Alexandre Pato (Milan):
The Brazilian had been in great form of late, but did nothing besides miss a late sitter against Palermo.  Hopefully this is just a blip for the usually excellent starlet.

Michele Paolucci (Siena): The striker did plenty of running, but did not generate any chances for himself or his team-mates. Although the Robur won their second consecutive match, it was not due to his efforts.

Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli): His performance on the pitch was commendable, even scoring a goal, but his actions were not. Disgraced himself by rifling the ball at Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri, earning a deserved sending off. The Italian sports program Domenica Sportiva stated the striker 'lost his mind.'

Losing His Mind | A moment of madness

Avramov

Cannavaro – Bocchetti – Favalli

Abate – Diego - Carboni – Palladino

Pato – Paolucci - Lavezzi
