Goal.com Worldview: Wesley Sneijder To Inter - Top or Flop?

Is Wesley Sneijder the one to answer Jose Mourinho's midfield conundrum? Goal.com's editors seem to think so...

Wesley Sneijder's move from Real Madrid to Inter was hard-fought and so easy to get wrong. The Dutch midfielder revealed he has joined Inter thanks to a bombardment of texts from Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho, who did everything in his powers to land him.

Now he's in the 'Special One's' kitbag, Goal.com's worldwide editors have cast their opinions on the deal, and it seems as if the feelings are mostly positive as the Beneamata become even more competitive having secured the trequartista Mourinho has been craving all summer.

Juan Lirman from Goal.com Spain

"Sneijder is not a Diego or Kaka if you look at his characteristics. He is a good midfielder, but he doesn't have the special killer pass. However, he scores goals and he has a lethal shot, especially from free kicks. He can be excellent for Inter, but I feel they should have signed Deco. To be honest, I don't think Sneijder will be first choice when [Esteban] Cambiasso returns."

Sulmaan Ahmad Goal.com International

"I would have seen Deco and Elano at Inter, but no-one better than Sneijder will be able to fulfil the role Mourinho wants. He is strong and works hard, he is a good team player and he can shoot. He's a little like [Frank] Lampard, but faster, though he is less effective in front of goal. He has quick feet, a great pass and good from set pieces. His one fault is that he rushes to much when finishing."

Wout Stravers, Goal.com Netherlands

"I saw him play many times for Ajax and I can say that he is a great transfer for Inter. He can shoot really well with both feet. His problems in the Eredivisie were psychological in the sense that he kept on arguing with [coach] Ronald Koeman, with 'funny' exchanges of opinion during the game."

Andrè Baibich, Goal.com Brazil

"I don't think Sneijder is the classical trequartista. I think he is better as a right or left-sided midfielder in a three-man midfield. I agree that he is not a great assist man. If he plays Cambiasso in the middle and then Zanetti either side, then Mourinho has a great midfield.

"However, there will still be problems in the final third as there is no fantasista or creative player. The Dutchman will strengthen Inter, but they are an incomplete puzzle."

Tommy van Eldik, Goal.com Netherlands

"Inter will be stronger with his qualities. He showed the limits to his character in Holland, especially when things do not go his way. However, his shooting is phenomenal as he has fine-tuned that over the years. He is less dynamic compared to Kaka, more of a passer than a dribbler."

Ivar Matusevich, Goal.com Spain

"He is not a classical trequartista, but an excellent midfielder with great shooting prowess. He can be very useful to Mourinho. If you like players like Cambiasso, then Sneijder is your man. He may not be great in defence, but he is world class when going forward."

Francois Duchateau, Goal.com Germany

"I think Sneijder is a stellar signing for Inter. He can be really useful to the team. He doesn't have the fantasy of [Rafael] van der Vaart, but his passing skills can be effective in the Italian league. He will create and score plenty. If he has the faith from his coach then he will get better up front."

Lucas Lopez, Goal.com Brazil

"Sneijder has great potential. He is an excellent creative player who knows how to shoot from distance. His vision is great and he is fast with the ball and he can read the game well. He needs to feel trust from Inter. I think he is a great buy."
