Borussia Dortmund youngster Erik Durm feels Real Madrid have a good chance to win the Champions League if they see off BVB in the quarter-finals.

The Primera Division side recorded a 3-0 first-leg win at the Santiago Bernabeu last week and Durm believes they have the potential to go all the way this season for the first time since 2001-02.

"Real Madrid are always among the favourites in the Champions League and that's no different this year," Durm told Goal.

"They are a better team than last season. They have a good chance of winning it if they eliminate us and reach the next round."

Nevertheless, the Germany Under-21 defender has made it clear that Dortmun are not throwing in the towel just yet and that they are determined to do better in the return at the Signal Iduna Park.

"It will be very difficult to turn things around, but nothing is impossible in football. Playing at home is an advantage and we will give everything in the return to try and reach the semi-finals.

"We will have Robert Lewandowski back, which is a big boost for us. We are very happy with his return, although his absence was not the only reason that we didn't score at the Bernabeu.

"It's hard to explain what went wrong in the first leg. We got plenty of chances, but failed to score. We have to be more focused in the return. We could still make it if we score an early goal."

Durm fought out some interesting battles with Gareth Bale in the first leg in Madrid and the 21-year-old has admitted that the Welshman caused him all kinds of trouble.

"It was very hard to mark Bale in the first leg. He's easily one of the best players in the world, there's no doubt about that.

"It wasn't just me, though. The entire team struggled to keep Bale and the rest of the Madrid players quiet."

Durm made his first-team debut for BVB in the 4-0 Bundesliga win over Augsburg in August 2013 and has since made 25 appearances in all competitions.
