Mathieu set to return in centre-back role against Paris Saint-Germain

The full-back is likely to operate in an unfamiliar central position as los Che prepare to travel to Paris

Jeremy Mathieu is set to start at centre-back for Valencia in Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain.

Los Che are without Ricardo Costa (hamstring) and Adil Rami (thigh), leaving the French international to partner Victor Ruiz in the centre of defence for the second leg of their last 16 clash.

The 29-year old left-back only returned to the first team on Saturday after receiving lengthy treatment for a long-term Achilles problem, but is pleased with his progress.

"I always try to do my best and I was happy to have played 90 minutes on Saturday," he said.

"I was a little afraid to play [at centre-back] but little by little I began to feel better."

"I don't know if I am back to 100% [fitness], but I am almost there. The injury [Achilles] itself is completely forgotten and at no time was I feeling pain."

Valencia suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Mestalla in the first leg and face an uphill battle to make it through to the quarter-finals.
