Lucescu: We should have beaten Chelsea
The Shakhtar Donetsk head coach disagreed with Roberto Di Matteo's assessment that the Blues were good value for their 3-2 victory in the Group E clash at Stamford Bridge
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu disagrees with Roberto Di Matteo's claim that Chelsea deserved their 3-2 win in the Champions League on Wednesday night.Victor Moses’ 94th-minute winner gave the Blues three points in their Group E clash at Stamford Bridge, which led the Italian to state that his side merited the triumph.
Lucescu however, strongly refutes that assessment from the former West Bromwich Albion manager.
"Di Matteo really said Chelsea were better than us and they deserved to win? Ok, let him talk!" Lucescu expressed to reporters.
"We dominated the play and should have scored more. I have a great team."
The Romanian trainer singled out shot-stopper Andriy Pyatov for criticism, holding him responsible for two of Chelsea’s goals.
"My keeper made two unforced errors and he cannot go on playing like that," Lucescu added. "We practiced situations like that in training, he [must have] got confused or something."
The 67-year-old cannot comprehend why his trio of Brazilian attackers are continuously overlooked for international selection.
The Shakhtar coach said: "I can't understand why [Brazil coach] Mano Menezes ignores our players. Willian, Fernandinho and Alex Teixeira should play for the national team."
The home win takes the European champions level with the Ukrainian side on seven points, just ahead of Juventus who beat Nordsjaelland 4-0 on Wednesday night.
