The Royal Blues boss was satisfied with their European away win, after his hard-working team ground out a narrow victorySchalke coach Huub Stevens has announced his delight following his side's 2-1 win against Olympiakos, as they picked up three points on matchday 1 in Champions League Group B.
Goals from Benedikt Howedes and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar cancelled out a brief equaliser from Djamel Abdoun, in a committed performance from the German side, which sees them go joint top of their group with Arsenal.
Despite Huntelaar firing a second-half penalty against the post, die Konigsblauen managed to hold onto their lead and achieve maximum points.
"We kept going for more than 90 minutes. The solution was to not panic but always remain calm. Even after the missed penalty we continued our game. It was a deserved victory," explained Stevens, speaking to reporters.
Schalke face Montpellier next month, in their second group game, where Stevens will be targeting three points to aid his side's attempt to progress into the knockout stages.
