Italian champions Inter were unable to turn around a 5-2 first-leg defeat against Schalke on Wednesday evening and the Nerazzurri were beaten 2-1 on Wednesday evening to see their Champions League campaign come to an end in the quarter-finals.
Defender Andrea Ranocchia admitted that Inter did their utmost to bounce back from last week's loss, but that the tie was already pretty much decided after the match at Giuseppe Meazza.
"Obviously the result of the first-leg was decisive. We came to Gelsenkirchen in an attempt to turn things around and we did our utmost. However, we were unable to break the deadlock early on and that cost us," said Ranocchia on the club's official website.
The former Bari star then urged his teammates not to think about the loss too long and stated that Inter now have to focus on Serie A again.
"A team like Inter should move on after a result like this. We still have the Serie A and Coppa Italia to win. We will continue to work hard until the end of the season."
Inter return to league action on Saturday evening away against Parma.
