thumbnail Hello,

Zhirkov comes back to Moscow to haunt Spartak...

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti was delighted after watching former CSKA Moscow winger Yuri Zhirkov score a wonder goal to keep the Stanford Bridge side on top of Champions League Group F.

Zhirkov returned to Russia to stun his former rivals with a cracking volley to set Chelsea onto a 2-0 win at Spartak, Nicolas Anelka getting the second.

The former AC Milan manager spoke of his delight to the club’s official website, saying: “For Yuri it was an important moment to come back to play for Chelsea in Russia and he scored a fantastic goal. I think he'll be very happy tonight.”

“He played very well, he doesn't have a problem to play as a left-back, as a midfielder. He scored a goal that was very important for the team, he opened the game and for us it was [easier] to win.”

The Italian was also proud of Anelka after the Frenchman scored his 50th goal for the Premier League champions, as he said: “He showed also before this game his quality, his ability to play in front when there is no Didier. Nicolas is a fantastic player because he can play in all the positions in front.”

Even though his side are three points clear after their victory in Moscow, Ancelotti still wants his side to remain focused on the up-coming Champions League fixtures.

“'We have to stay focused for the next game, we want to arrive in first place, this is our aim and we have the possibility to do this, but we don't have to give rest to other players, the Champions League is important for all the games.”
