Auxerre’s reward for shocking Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday evening is a date with Milan, Real Madrid and Ajax in what appears to be a fiercely competitive Champions League group.
Cedric Hengbart scored the opening goal as AJA turned around a deficit against Zenit St. Petersburg at the Stade Abbe-Deschamps, and the defender cannot wait to get his teeth into some of Europe’s top names.
“I'm really happy,” he smiled to radio station RMC. “We wanted to play the big clubs and it’s done. It's beautiful!
“Even if it's Real, Milan and Ajax, we have things to prove and will try to do something.”
The Burgundy club will be considered the minnows of the group, though they were also heavy underdogs as they eliminated their big-spending Russian opponents deservedly over two legs. A feisty club, they will relish such high profile ties.
