Reacting to the news that Bayern Munich had been paired with Manchester United in the Champions League, Marc van Bommel and Phillip Lahm both expressed hope that their side can progress through to the semi-finals of the illustrious competition.

FCB have already eliminated Fiorentina and had a hand in Juventus’ fall from grace in the competition, though the Red Devils will prove a tough scalp to claim, as both players eluded to.

“The mood among the players during the draw was good,” explained van Bommel to the club’s official website. “It's a very difficult draw, but a fantastic one too. Manchester are a leading European club, just like Bayern. It’s a shame we’re at home first.”

Lahm echoed these comments, offering: “A tough draw, a truly big name! We’ve been drawn against opponents who like to play football, which suits us fine. There’s obviously no way we’ll underestimate them. The most important thing is to keep a clean sheet in the first leg at home.”

The winner of the clash between the Bundesliga giants and the Premier League side will be paired against the victor of the all-French quarter-final between Olympique Lyonnais and Girondins de Bordeaux.
