Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero and defender Alvaro Arbeloa acknowledged that los Merengues didn't play like a team in the second half of their 1-1 UEFA Champions League second leg against Lyon, which saw them exit the tournament on aggregate.

Madrid were in blistering form in the first 45 but failed to make their dominance count as Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the half and they were made to rue that profligacy when Miralem Pjanic bagged for the visitors with 15 minutes remaining.

"It's true in the second half we did not play like a team. It is time to take stock of the negative things and we must learn from our mistakes because we cannot fail in the league," Granero was quoted as saying by AS.

"We started well but in the second half we slowed down and they were comfortable at 1-0 and scored."

Arbeloa said the players were hurt by the defeat but said they must shoulder the blame for the loss, not coach Manuel Pellegrini.

"We are all hurt, the homegrown players and the others. We had it in our grasp so now we are all distressed," he stated.

"The problem is that we didn't win it in the first half and in the second they surprised us with the tactical shift. They have had more control, more possession and were dominant in midfield. In the second half we stopped being a team. We have failed to endure or adapt to the new script but I appreciate the coach's decisions, the responsibility lies with the players."
