Nicklas Bendtner scored a hat-trick as Arsenal defeated Porto comprehensively in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and the Gunners' Danish striker was delighted to bag three goals as Arsene Wenger's side won 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

"It’s fantastic, it’s been a long time since I’ve done that so I’m very pleased," he told Sky Sports.

In contrast, Bendtner had missed a host of chances in his last outing for the Gunners and the forward was glad he had the chance to make up for it in the Champions League.

"No it didn’t [go very well in my last game] but sometimes it’s one of those days and today I put it right," he explained.

"Every time I play a game I put it behind me, as soon as it’s finished it’ll be the same with this one.

"We’re through to the next round and now we have to focus on that so I’m happy with my hat-trick but tomorrow it’s forgotten.

"It was a nice thing [to score early] because obviously I saw Andrey [Arshavin] got a tackle in so it was good for me to score early but I don’t know if that affected my game or not."

On the victory itself, Bendtner revealed that Arsenal are now aiming to win the competition outright having reached the quarter-finals.

"Well it [beating Porto] will give us a lot of confidence," said the Danish international.

"We always wanted to win the Champions League because it is something we haven’t done so we will do anything to try to and win it.

"We scored almost all our chances today so that is very positive."

Finally, on his penalty, Bendtner said it had been decided before kick-off that he would take a penalty if the Gunners were awarded a spot-kick.

"I’m in there but I’m not always the one who is first on the sheet, I think Cesc [Fabregas] does that but I knew that I was going to take it today so all the guys just wished me luck," he concluded.
