Fiorentina Coach Cesare Prandelli Wants To 'Write History' Against Bayern Munich

Fiorentina have the chance to progress to the last eight of the Champions League tomorrow if they can overturn a 2-1 agrregate scoreline in favour of Bayern Munich at the Artemio Franchi. Coach Cesare Prandelli has urged his players to write a new chapter in the history of the Tuscan club.

"Tomorrow night we'll try to make history. At this moment we must detach completely and think of this extraordinary opportunity," he said at the pre-match press conference on Monday.

"There are no problems with fatigue or psychologically. We must start the game in the correct manner, on Saturday [against Juventus] we did not. Anyway, now teams do not concede too many goals in Europe. Football has changed, the key is to find a balance in the way you play."

The Viola conceded a late goal that replays showed was clearly offside in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, but Prandelli insisted that events like these will help his team develop character before revealing the majority of his starting XI.

"Errors from the referees can embarass you after a lot of hard work, but we do not feel victimised," he continued.

"My formation? As with the first leg, I have no trouble telling you. Frey will be playing, De Silvestri, Natali, Felipe, Zanetti, Montolivo, Marchionni, Jovetic, Vargas and Gilardino.

"In the championship we have had an inevitable decline after making progress in the Champions League and Coppa Italia. It's clear that [Adrian] Mutu's absence has put us in difficulty, but some emergencies can help us grow as a unit. If we put in a good performance tomorrow night it would be further evidence of our strength."
