Stuttgart Captain Matthieu Delpierre: We Must Make The Impossible Possible Against Barcelona
The Schwaben have been quick to cast themselves as the underdogs in their forthcoming European tie...
“Barcelona have an outstanding team,” he told the club’s official website. “They are one of the strongest teams in Europe. For us this is a very difficult task but also a great challenge. We will obviously try everything to make the seemingly impossible possible.”
The French defender wasn’t the only member of the club to paint a dark picture of the forthcoming ties, with executive Horst Heldt also keen to place the Blaugrana firmly as favourites for the tie.
“It was clear that we would get a big name,” he stated. “We are against the defending champions and are clear underdogs.”
While Barca continue to ride high in La Liga, Stuttgart are simply battling against relegation in the Bundesliga. They recently parted company with coach Markus Babbel. New trainer Gross made an immediate impression, motivating his side to defeat Unirea Urziceni to qualify for the last 16 of Europe's elite competition.
The first encounter takes place in Stuttgart on February 23, with the follow-up match at Camp Nou on March 17.
