Olympique Lyonnais were denied top spot in Champions League Group E by a late winner for Fiorentina against Liverpool, but left-back Aly Cissokho has insisted that he is unconcerned by the blow.

OL appeared set to ascend to the top of the table for much of the evening, moving into a two-goal lead over Debrecen by half-time as Liverpool held the upper hand at Anfield. But as Lyon bagged goals three and four in France, the Viola grabbed a leveller and a dramatic late winner.

“In this competition, qualification is the main thing,” he told Canal+. “There are only big teams [in the competition]. It will be a disadvantage to play the second leg of the last 16 away from home, but we are happy to have qualified.”

Cissokho scored his first goal for les Gones on Wednesday evening, drilling low into the net from 20 yards, and he was pleased with his side’s comfortable 4-0 success.

“We wanted to win for our fans,” he explained, hinting at the club's recent winless streak that dated back to October. “Tonight we gave them a show, scoring four and conceding none.

“It prepares us for Sunday's game [against Bordeaux]. It restores confidence in the squad.”

Speaking specifically of his strike – his first at senior level – the left-back said, “I will not forget it. I’m happy to have scored, Barcelona’s Dani Alves inspired me!”

Lyon will not be allowed to rest as they face les Girondins at the weekend in a fixture that may well determine the course of their domestic campaign. Defeat would see them fall eight points off the pace of the Ligue 1 leaders.
