Luca Antonini Hails Resilient Milan After Zurich Draw
The defender says advancing in Europe was all that mattered last night and they can now turn their focus to Serie A.
AC Milan full-back Luca Antonini was relieved to watch the Rossoneri avoid defeat at Zurich last night to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Italian side found themselves chasing the game after just 30 minutes, but kept their cool as Real Madrid were effectively rendering the outcome of the Letzigrund clash insignificant and Ronaldinho tucked away a penalty after the break to earn the Diavoli a 1-1 draw.
“It was a tough match that soon took a turn for the worse when Zurich took the lead,” Antonini told the club’s official website.
“But Milan did well in the second period in finding an equalizer thanks to Ronaldinho’s spot-kick. A win would have been better, but the important thing was to go through.
“We struggled to cope with their system. But things improved after [Mathieu] Flamini came on and managed to create a few chances with [Marco] Borriello and [Alexandre] Pato.
“We are through now and this allows us to focus only on the league because there is plenty of time before the last 16 tie. Let’s put the group stage behind us and concentrate on Sunday’s match with Palermo.”
