Knee Injury Sidelines Rubin Kazan Defender Roman Sharonov

The centre-back could miss the do-or-die Champions League game against Inter...

RPL: Roman Sharonov - Rubin
Russian titleholders Rubin Kazan will probably have to make do without experienced defender Roman Sharonov in their decisive Champions League game against Inter on December 9.

The 33-year-old centre back sustained a knee injury in the goalless draw against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday and was forced to leave the pitch after 53 minutes of play.

"Initial reports point to a lateral knee ligament injury, though more detailed information will be available after the scan. I would hardly be able to play against Inter," said Sharonov to Russian reporters.

Rubin lie third in Group F, level on points with second-placed Inter, and need to win at Giuseppe Meazza to be certain of qualifying for the knock-out phase.
