Atletico Madrid Are Better Placed To Take Europa League Spot - APOEL Coach Jovanovic
Mixed emotions for the coach after the 1-1 draw...
APOEL coach Ivan Jovanovic acknowledged that Atletico Madrid are more likely to finish third in their group after the two sides drew 1-1 in their penultimate group game of this seasons UEFA Champions League.
A goal from Simao Sabrosa shortly after the hour mark cancelled out an early Nenad Mirosavljevic goal to ensure that Los Colchoneros go into their final group game in third place, with a Europa League spot in sight and Jovanovic is resigned to the fact that they are better placed to grab the place in Europe's secondary competition.
"A draw against Atletico Madrid is a bad result in terms of being able to get into the Europa League. We know Atletico are a strong team with a great squad and from this point of view a draw is a good result," he told a press conference after the game.
"It is clear that Atletico have a huge advantage to get third place in the group. I do not think everything is totally decided yet because there's a game left but Atletico have the initiative and play at home to Porto and we must go to London to play against Chelsea."
