APOEL Draw Could Have Been Worse - Atletico Madrid Coach Quique Flores

The coach is glad Atleti's fate is in their own hands...

Atletico Madrid coach Quique Flores reflected on his sides 1-1 draw away to APOEL in the UEFA Champions League by saying it could have been worse and insisting he is pleased that his side do not have to rely on anyone else to secure third spot in Group D and a Europa League place.

Simao Sabrosa equalised shortly after the hour mark to cancel out Nenad Mirosavljevic's early goal for the Cypriots to secure a vital point for Los Colchoneros and Flores admitted that the draw was hard won.

"The goal was to depend on ourselves to continue in European competition. There is one game left now and we do not have to be depending on another team to get into the Europa League," he told a press conference afterwards.

"The truth is that I had the feeling that the game could have gone worse. Today, in all competitions, to pick up a point you have to suffer a lot."

Atletico can guarantee themselves third place with a win over Porto at the Vicente Calderon in a fortnight.
