Tonight Fiorentina qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 home win against already qualified Olympique Lyon.

The winning goal was scored through a penalty converted by Juan Manuel Vargas, who scored his first-ever strike in the Champions League. Following the match he talked about this historic win to Sky.

"Also [coach Cesare] Prandelli complimented us for this victory," he said.

"Qualifying for the next round is an amazing achievement for us and also today we played as a great team.

"It's a deserved qualification, a great evening, we're happy to have lived it with our fans. We are now more aware of our strength in the Champions League compared to last season.

"We are more calm and we're aware we can do well. Now we have to continue like this, also in the [Italian] league."

The Viola's next match in Serie A is at San Siro against Scudetto holders Inter, who were beaten 2-0 by Barcelona tonight.
