Fiorentina have confirmed that coach Cesare Prandeli will be unable to call upon goalkeeper Sebastien Frey for this evening’s Champions League Group E match with Hungarian side Debrecen at the Stadio Franchi.

“Frey is unavailable after suffering a sprain to the metacarpophalangeal joint of his index finger during Fiorentina-Catania,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

“Scans have ruled out any serious problems, though the persistence of pain prevents the athlete from performing properly. Physiotherapeutic treatment is already underway in order to get him to recover for the next league game.”

Serbian net-minder Vlada Avramov will deputize between the posts, but Prandelli is also without star striker Stevan Jovetic who is still sidelined with a foot injury.

However, Romanian ace Adrian Mutu took part in yesterday’s training session and is expected to be given the green light to line up next to Alberto Gilardino up front.

Fiorentina defeated Debrecen 4-3 in Budapest a fortnight ago.
