The Dutch coach has asserted that strong home form is the key to success in Europe, so victory against the Bianconeri on Wednesday night is essential...

Bayern Munich host Juventus on Wednesday evening in the second Champions League match of the group stage, with the Germans aiming to make a significant move in the group.

“You have to win your home games in the Champions League,” head coach Louis van Gaal explained to a press conference. “They’re one of Europe’s leading clubs. They’re on form, and they boast quality and experience. We have struggled to beat Italian teams in the past because they’re so well organised. The Champions League is a different competition to the Bundesliga, and we’re leading the table at the moment."

German international Bastian Schweinsteiger had his say about the match too.

“We’re at home, and a win would take us five points clear of Juventus," he considered. "Beating a team like them requires total concentration. We’ll be prepared for Diego if he plays. We’ll need to stay alert and keep a watchful eye on him. But he can’t be our only focus. Juventus have plenty of quality elsewhere.”

Bayern beat Maccabi Haifa 3-0 in their opener, while Juve were held to a draw by Bordeaux.
