Barcelona's scintillating 4-0 first leg win over Bayern Munich last week in the quarter-finals of the Champions League drew worldwide applause and even their German counterparts heaped praise on Pep Guardiola's charges.

Since then, the Bavarians have openly confessed that they have no chance of overturning the tie and pulling off an upset to qualify for the semi-finals. But Barca president Joan Laporta believes that is precisely what their rivals want his men to think.

“I do not listen to anything Bayern have been saying,” he told journalists while attending a dinner function at the Allianz Arena for the two clubs’ directors. “Their strategy is to create an atmosphere to make us comfortable and become overconfident with ourselves.

“I am sure that they have a lot of desire to fight back. We must not let our guard down. We have to play with maximum concentration because we are facing a very important game and we must finish off the good work that we have done.

“I appreciate the praise we have been getting, but remember that we have not won anything yet. We will not become complacent because of all the admiration.”
