Marcos Senna Certain To Miss Villarreal’s Champions League Trip To Arsenal

El Submarino have been dealt yet another injury blow after their integral midfielder commander suffered a setback against Malaga.

Marcos Senna clashes with Samir Nasri during the 1-1 draw between Villarreal and Arsenal in the Champions League

Villarreal’s gamble to field Marcos Senna for Saturday night's encounter against Malaga appears to have backfired after he picked up an injury and is now set to miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates.

The midfield general sustained an ankle sprain while on international duty two weeks ago but he played the full 90 minutes against the Gunners last week and against the Andalucians last night. Although this latest injury is unrelated, the risk to play him brought almost no dividends as the Yellow Submarine sank to a 2-0 defeat at home.

According to Marca, Senna is suffering from a muscular strain in his left leg. Although the diagnosis it not yet clear and further test will be run on Sunday to determine his condition, the player himself has confirmed that he is likely to miss the vital clash at Arsenal.

With Santi Cazorla a guaranteed absentee and wingers, Cani and Mati Fernandez also doubtful for the trip to North London, Villarreal’s midfield line could be severely under-strength.

The first leg encounter at El Madrigal ended 1-1 with Senna scoring for El Submarino.
