Atletico Madrid twice blew the lead last night against Porto in their last-16 Champions League clash after Lisandro Lopez struck twice to cancel out Maxi Rodriguez and Diego Forlan’s goals.

But despite seemingly being in control of the game, Los Colchoneros' midfielder, Maniche, admitted that it was his former club who were the superior side on the night.

“To be honest, I believe that Porto deserved to beat us because they created a lot more chances than we did,” he professed during the post-match conference.

“Even before the game, we knew that they are a great team with a lot of good players and they were never going to give up easily when we were leading 1-0.

“Now, the second leg at Porto will be very complicated. They are a difficult team to beat at home but if we can score a goal, then things can change quickly.”

Atletico will be at a severe disadvantage in the second leg, having conceded two crucial away goals to their Iberian counterparts. Not only that, they will have to square off with Barcelona and Real Madrid in successive weeks before travelling to Oporto on March 11.
