Player Ratings: Inter 0-1 Panathinaikos
There was shock in Milan this evening as Internazionale's inability to inject pace and passion into their own game came back to haunt them as Sarriegi pounced on a Cesar spill to score the only goal of the game and gift Panathinaikos with maximum points.
Cesar: 6.0 -
Did not have much to do apart from pick the ball out of his net when Sarriegi pounced on a loose ball he originally spilled.
Maxwell: 6.5 -
Ran the lines well down the left hand side and linked the defence with the midfield. He could, and should have been a good outlet for attack in the first half, but his team-mates consistently overlooked his existence.
Maicon: 7.0 -
Mirrored Maxwell's running, but down the right hand side, but saw more of the ball. His crossing and final ball though was, at times, erratic.
Cordoba: 6.5 -
Did okay. He was quick to the challenge and closed down sharply in the first half but grew lethargic in the second. Attempted the route one tactic up to Ibra, but with little effect.
Materazzi: 6.5 -
He won early headers and was dominant in the air.
Cambiasso: 8.0 -
Inter's best player on the night. He pinged balls all over the park, but was let down once his job was done. Played in Ibra with smart passing. Good range.
Zanetti: 6.0 -
Solid enough, if unspectacular. Began play from deep. Passed sideways.
Figo: 7.5 -
Played clever balls into the flanks. Good crossing and can still be a nuisence.
Muntari: 6.5 -
When for the recently dubbed 'assists assist', like the Aliaksandr Hleb role. Involved with the attacking play.
Ibrahimovic: 7.0 -
During the first half he roamed around the pitch with good effect, finding space down the right, as well as the left and in the middle. Could have scored but lifted the ball to far over Galinovic and got the ball stuck on the roof of the net.
Adriano: 6.5 -
Squandered good opportunities to open Inter's account. Hit the post with one strike and lashed at another.
Substitutions:
Cruz: 6.0; Quaresma: 7.0; Balotelli: 6.5.
PANATHINAIKOS
Galinovic: 8.0 -
Aside from one flapping error after a Figo corner, he was quick to collect the ball from Inter's crossing. Kept Pana in the game with two fine saves late on.
Sarriegi: 7.5 -
Pounced, with the reflex action of a snake, onto a spilled shot to open the scoring.
Goumas: 7.0 -
He was strong with his head and won many balls in defence. It was also his header from a Pana corner that forced Cesar into parrying his effort into the path of Sarriegi.
Vyntra: 5.5 -
Poor. He got a few blocks and interceptions in early on, but when he was tight to his marker he would end up letting his man go. Dodgy defending.
Spiropoulos: 7.5 -
Produced a goal-saving on-the-line clearance to keep Pana's sheet clean after a Figo corner.
Nilsson: 6.5 -
Contributed to Panathinaikos' attack and build up play.
Junior Simao: 7.0 -
Came into his own as the game grew on and showed a little intuition. Launched one shot from long range. Played some nice passes into the wide areas.
Gilberto: 7.0 -
Did his job without complication and did it well. Had a few attempts on goal that were blocked.
Karagounis: 6.5 -
Would have wanted to put in a shining performance against his former side, but didn't. Was okay though. Tried to play the early ball. Substituted.
Gabriel: 6.5 -
Shot on sight in the early stages of the game. Played in his top man Mantzios well.
Mantzios: 8.0 -
Led the line well. Was a willing runner but had little support. Got himself into good positions but was sometimes let down by poorly executed passes.
Substitutions:
Salpingidis: 6.0; Tziolis: n/a.
