However, that doesn't mean that the defender isn't delighted to see the Spanish hitman return from his hamstring injury.
Torres was a key part of another red-clad group of underachievers, Spain, who ended their trophy drought in the summer by winning Euro 2008.
Now, the wily veteran hopes that 'El Niño' can have a similar impact for 'Pool, who've held down the fort in his absence.
Carragher said: "Having Torres back has given everyone a big lift, as it's great to see a player of that calibre coming back for the second half of the season.
"Hopefully he'll now add freshness, because the manager hasn't changed it around so much and players have played a lot of games.
"Still, it's a feather in the cap for everyone concerned with the club that we have reached the top of the table despite missing the best striker in the world - over the last 12 months anyway - for periods."
