In fact, it could have been worse; The Hammers went close with a couple of speculative efforts and might have done better on the counter late on.
Taking the bigger picture into account, Reds stalwart Jamie Carragher insists that it's not all doom and gloom despite the dreary draw.
He told the club's official website: "I think the positive thing to take is the fact that we have qualified for the next stage of the Champions League and we are top of the Premier League. To do that when we are not playing well and going through a rough patch is really positive.
"You are always disappointed when you don't win your home games, but we're going up the league when we're not at our best!"
Looking ahead to the weekend trip to Ewood Park to take on Paul Ince's struggling Blackburn Rovers, Carragher is hopeful that the team can get back to winning ways.
"Hopefully we can get a result,"he said, "They have had a few bad results lately and it's the type of place that we normally do okay."
