Despite taking an early lead through Dirk Kuyt, the Reds could not hold on and the lilywhite side scored twice in the second half to claim maximum points.
It was a result that saw Liverpool relinquish their three point cushion at the head of the table and fall behind league leaders Chelsea due to an inferior goal difference.
Dutch forward Ryan Babel though believes a win in the Carling Cup this evening will make amends for the loss two weekends ago.
"I think it will be a relief for the players who are not playing a lot right now to show what they can do in this competition.
"It will be good for other players to come into the team, so we definitely want to win the Carling Cup if possible.
"I think the team want revenge for when we lost to them [Spurs] a few weeks ago," Babel said.
"It was unnecessary to lose points against them because we controlled the game and created a lot of chances, but we failed to score the second goal. Hopefully we will beat them this time."
