British tabloid The Mirror, though, reports that the Premier League title hopefuls are thinking creatively as they seek to enhance the squad on what is apparently a threadbare budget.
Their report suggests that Florent Malouda will be offered to Serie A strugglers Roma in exchange for full-back Cicinho.
Brazilian coach Scolari values his wing backs and his 28-year-old countryman would likely thrive at Stamford Bridge under Felipão.
The players in question have been the subjects of much speculation in recent times, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before their names were mentioned together.
Bayern Munich are apparently interested in Malouda, who has failed to achieve the required consistency on the Premier League, despite some bright moments.
Meanwhile, former Real Madrid man Cicinho has stated that he doesn't want to part with the Giallorossi, although the club have allegedly lined up Valencia full back Miguel as his replacement.
The top clubs in his native Brazil are also said to be monitoring his situation closely.
The idea of a Malouda/Cicinho swap is interesting. It could be mutually beneficial, both for the clubs and the players, but we shall wait for an official hint before considering the idea any further.
